Margie er utdanna i utøvande musikk, musikkvitenskap og musikkpedagogikk, og har arbeidd som musikar sidan 2003. Ho vaks opp på Manger, nærare bestemt på Manger folkehøgskule, og arbeider no som assisterande rektor og lærar på skulen. Ho er for tida fast dirigent for Flesland musikklag og ambassadør for Yamaha.

Dr. Robert Childs is a leading figure in the world of brass music. For over forty years he performed at the highest level giving solo performances in many of the world’s most prestigious venues. He has given masterclasses throughout Europe’s finest conservatoires and is now recognised as a leading education specialist and brass band adjudicator.

Following a glittering career as principal euphonium and soloist with many of Yorkshire’s finest brass bands, in 2000 Robert relinquished his position as principal euphonium and associate conductor of Black Dyke Band in order to become Musical Director of Cory Band in Wales. During his twelve year tenure with Cory, the band won the World Brass Band Championships, National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, Brass in Concert Championship, British Open Championships (on 5 occasions), European Brass Band Championships (including a 2008-2010 hat-trick), Welsh Regional Championships (on 9 occasions) and he led the Band from 13th to No.1 in the official World Rankings. In 2014 Robert won Brass In Concert conducting Grimethorpe Colliery Band and the following year led them to victory at the British Open Championships.

Robert enjoys adjudicating and has served on many jurys in prestigious competitions. In 2022 he adjudicated the National Championships of Great Britain, Belgium, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. He has previously adjudicated in New Zealand, Italy, Australia, Japan, Norway and America. He is looking forward to Denmark!

In 2002 Robert was awarded a Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of Salford and is also an Associate of The Royal College of Music and Fellow of The London College of Music. Robert gained a Masters Degree with distinction from University of Leeds, holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the Open University and in 2007 his remarkable achievements were recognized by the Worshipful Company of Musicians when he was awarded the prestigious Iles Medal. In 2008 Robert was given ‘Freedom of the City of London’ and also received the prestigious John Edwards Memorial Award by the Welsh Music Guild for outstanding contribution to Welsh Music.

As an educator, Robert is pre-eminent in his field. He is now an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where he is also Director of Brass Band Studies; he is a visiting Professor at Tokyo’s Senzoku Gakuen College of Music; Chairman of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain organisation; advisor to the Harry Mortimer Trust; Musical Director of both Brass Band Summer School U.K. and the North American Brass Band Summer School, and Managing Director of Performing Arts in Education.

Anne Crookston’s musical experience is wide ranging, having been involved in choirs, brass bands, orchestras and wind bands throughout her career. Born in Glasgow, her earliest musical training was on tenor horn, moving to baritone at the age of 14. She also learned to play the oboe and later studied the instrument at Glasgow University, from which she graduated with a B.Mus (Hons) degree.

Her banding career began at Newmains in Lanarkshire, moving to CWS (Glasgow) in 1986 and going on to play in the band’s winning performance at the Royal Albert Hall in 1990. She moved to Whitburn Band in 1992 and remained solo baritone there until 2010, when she left to pursue her conducting career. Following a short spell with Kingdom Brass, Anne returned to Whitburn as Musical Director in 2011, remaining there for three years. Following a successful spell at Bathgate Band, during which she guided them to second place at the National Finals, she moved on to work with the Newtongrange Band in Midlothian as their Musical Director.

Currently Deputy Headteacher at St. Margaret’s Academy in Livingston, Anne also gained a master’s degree in educational leadership at Glasgow University. As an adjudicator, her experience ranges from local music festivals to the Siddis Contest in Stavanger, the Danish National Championships, Swedish National Championships, European Youth Championships and, closer to home, various Regional Championships, the National Finals in Cheltenham and the Wychavon, Bolsover and Hardraw Scar entertainment contests.

David Johnson BMus (Hons) LLCM LRSM

Born and raised in Sennen Cove near Lands End in Cornwall, David began his playing career on baritone with Penzance Silver Band before moving to Solo Euphonium at Lanner and District Silver Band, playing until he joined the Royal Marines Band Service in 1990. During the last 26 years as a professional musician in the Royal Marines, his career has taken him all over the world, performing as a soloist in the USA, Canada, Russia, Ethiopia, Japan and Australia.

In addition to his talents as a performer, David is also prolific arranger for wind and brass bands. For the past 11 years his music has been featured at the Mountbatten Festival of Music at the Royal Albert Hall and his more recent works include arrangements performed at the world premiere of the James Bond film ‘Skyfall’ and for Classic FM chart-topping saxophonist, Amy Dixon. In recognition of his achievements in this area, in 2013, 14, 15 & 16 he was awarded the prestigious Herbert Lott Award for Innovation and Invention in Orchestration.

David started his conducting career with Torbay Brass and in 2006 moved to Verwood Concert Brass where, over the course of three years, the band was promoted from Third to First Section. In 2010 David took up the position of Musical Director at Aldbourne Band and in 2011 steered the band to victories at the West of England First Section Regional Championships, Senior Trophy at the Spring Festival and the National Finals in Cheltenham. As recognition of his achievements with the band, he was nominated as ‘Conductor of the Year’ in the 4BarsRest Awards in 2011. Since Aldbourne’s meteoric rise to the Championship Section, David has achieved 3rd placings with the band at the Regional Championships in 2013 and 2014 respectively. These successes were also mirrored at the Spring Festival with promotion into the British Open’s Grand Shield in 2013

Having spent most of 2014 in the euphonium section of Cory Band, David picked up the batten once more with Aldbourne, helping the band secure a place at the National Finals in the Royal Albert Hall for the first time in 35 years.

2022 Katrina Marzella was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1983. She is well-established in the brass music world as a leading instrumentalist, adjudicator, conductor, and teacher, and was the solo baritone player of Black Dyke Band from 2011 to 2019. She has travelled extensively across Europe, Asia, Australasia and North America as a musician and has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious auditoriums and music festivals.
Katrina was the inaugural winner of the BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Soloist of the Year in 2004. She was the British Open Solo Champion in 2006 and 2007, Ern Keller International Soloist in 2007 and 2008, runner-up at the 5th European Soloist Competition in 2010, and was awarded the ‘Best Soloist’ award at the 2014 European Brass Band Championships in Perth.
Katrina is passionate about raising the profile of the baritone horn and has premiered over 25 new solo works for her instrument. Katrina was integral to the development of the Yamaha Neo baritone horn and performs exclusively as a Yamaha Artist on the instrument she helped design.
For many years, Katrina practised as a lawyer in Manchester, England. Since moving to Naples, Italy, with her family in 2021, Katrina is in increasing demand as a conductor across mainland Europe.

Dr.Luc Vertommen was born in Leest (Mechelen) where he made his first acquaintance with (wind) music through the local fanfare band.  He studied cornet, music theory and piano at the music academies in Mechelen and Willebroek.  Further musical studies were completed with a triple diploma – trumpet, music history and band conducting at the Lemmensinstitute in Louvain.  He also obtained a first prize in chamber music at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, a master degree for conducting and Doctor of Musical Arts (2011) at Salford University, Manchester, (UK).   He has immersed himself full-time in the world of band music as a brass teacher, player, conductor, arranger and writer. 

He conducts Brass Band Gent (B) and the Hauts-de-France Brass Band (France) and is head of music school in Deurne (Antwerp).

He can be heard on more than 40 highly acclaimed CD recordings and is editor and artistic director of Band Press VOF.  He regularly is invited to conduct or adjudicate around Europe and obtained the International Buma Brass Award 2014 for his international work within the band movement.

His interest for the past and for band history  started a series of books and CD recordings.  For this Anthology of Flemish Band Music he received the Fugue-Trophy by Sabam (the Belgian authors right association) in 2011.  He unearthed many pages and hours of original music by Belgian composers as Paul Gilson, Marcel Poot, Pieter Leemans, Jules Demersseman, Jean-Baptiste Singelée François-Joseph Fétis and August De Boeck.  As an arranger some of his arrangements (especially those made for fanfare band and brass band) are played worldwide.

His interest for the future is shown in his collaboration with many contemporary composers as Philip Sparke, Edward Gregson, Martin Ellerby and John Pickard. He also premiered new works for band by composers as Rob Goorhuis, André Laporte, Piet Swerts, Philip Sparke,  Nigel Clarke, Johan Evenepoel and Stan Nieuwenhuis.
